Mom's Recycled Drink Holder

Mom's Birthday Present This is one of those special projects, created for my mom's birthday!!!  I wasn't too sure what to do for her this year, it was her first birthday since being back home... gone for 12 years!!!!   I wanted this present to be special and fun at the same time!!!!! Supplies used: Coordinating cardstock and papers (I used 6) Sizzix die cuts, I used balloon and present for this example Hot glue Pop dots Twine for balloon strings  Recycled drink holder from a fast food restaurant (85) Directions: Start by die cutting the shapes you are going to use for your creation!  I ended up doing way more shapes than I needed to for this project!  However, it will help me make a few cards to go in my stash!!! Add the twine to the balloons, set aside for the moment!!! If you have presents, get them put together!  If you don't have a die cut present shape, create your own presents with scrap paper and a bow! Start to...

Monthly Reminder Post - (a bit late)

This month - I am a bit late in my reminder's...but being in temporary housing has made it so I have not been able to create, therefore - I don't need to remind!  However, I figured it would be a good thing for others, and gives me an idea as to what I need to take care of when we are in a place!  That is the fun part - finding a place and getting a life going and then getting all my stuff out of storage!   So, start looking at the next 6 weeks, which brings you to the end of July.  What events do you have coming up -  parties, BBQ's, birthday's, anniversaries, or anything else that you need to make, purchase, or bake for?   Start to write down your list - looking at the different things you need to get done.  If you have a birthday and you need to make cards for - then make the layouts while you are at it.  That way you can simply add your photos to it when you have them ready!   You might also want to check out your tentative l...

Simply52 Designers Sketch -

I am so happy to introduce a new design team I am on, Simply52 Designers Blog, formerly known as Pencil Lines!   Sketches are wonderful to use - and this sketch is no different!!!  You also are given possible colors to use along with your creation, to make it easier to do your own thing!  As I type this, I see a fun card I can do just by using the right side of the sketch only!  Looks like I will need to play a little bit this weekend it looks like!        For the sketch - you will also find this at Simply52 Designers Blog...(link to follow)...  Sketch #1, Simply 52 Designers Blog, formerly known as Pencil Lines      My creation came together and was a lot of fun to do once I got it started!  It was one of those pictures that I have wanted to scrapbook, but no inspiration to finish actually do it!  Once I put together the background paper, the rest really came together in no time!  I...

Monthly reminder post

Monthly event planner It's that time again.....time to look at the upcoming events that you have in your life for the next 6 weeks...   Whether you have birthday's, weddings, showers, or fun summertime events planned, grab your calendar and start to look at what you need to make, purchase, send off, or what have you!        Our economy really stinks right now, I've been living it for a long time... and learned a few things along the journey until now.  Take time to look at what you have going on so you can get started on things early - instead of at the last minute...  Start to look at the calendar for things you need to deal with until the end of August!  This way, you can start getting things you need to - put together in order to get things completed on time!   My main problem in life - (I am so like my mom) - I procrastinate - and pretty soon, what I "wanted" to do - doesn't get done because I didn't spend the time to ge...

Using up your scraps to save money

Thanks       Using every bit of your scraps is key to creating on a budget - especially if you are already needing to save money due to the economy.  For the examples shown here - you will see the heart I used in brown for the Thanks card...  For the note card, I used the background shape used when I cut out the heart for this card.  You will notice the side piece on both of the cards, those were left over from the framed layout page example on the bottom.  I didn't want to throw that piece away, so it was saved and used on the card examples here.  Saving all of the scraps you can help if you want to save money...this way, you can use on paper piecing patterns, cards, punch pieces, tags, backgrounds, or die cut shapes.   Note card       For the cards you work on - this is where you end up saving money using up all the little things you have...like a small strip of paper when you trim something... or the inside of the hea...

Gift ideas - all on a budget

The economy right now has made it so we can't do as much for people gift wise  like  we used to...people are really on a budget - watching every dime that goes out  of their home.  I know for Del and I - we've been that way since he was taken out of  work in  2003!  I wanted what everyone else had - all the stickers and die cuts, papers, ribbon  and such - but I couldn't afford it.  I learned every trick in the book to make my pages look good by learning how to  spend my money wisely.  I used every part of the  papers I could, whether  it be for backgrounds on cards or bookmarks, or used as an embellishment like punches or paper piecing's!  (Make sure you check out yesterdays post for more ideas  on using scraps.)      Today I wanted to give you a few "gift" ideas that can help you to be able to save  a bit of money on not only the gift itself, but also the ways t...
I love to make cards, for any event...anniversaries, getting married, Valentines Day (like today) or just because I want someone to know that I am thinking about them.  I use my Sizzix die cuts for quite a few projects, which cuts down the expense of having to always go out and purchase die cuts or stickers.  Check out the Zyron machine, I use the smaller one in order to make my die cuts and stamped images into stickers to make it easier to adhere to the pages.  This example can be used for any theme, or as a just because card!  Change the colors to something more masculine such as into brown and blues!      With this example to the far right, the look is much the same, both adding a simple saying to the card, keeping the colors in ivory and red.  The stamped image in the back is of a wedding cake, but can be changed to a heart very easily.  This type of card can also be for any kind of themed card, use a balloo...

Event planner idea

In the past few weeks, I have given you a few ideas to keep track of the events in your life such as birthdays, anniversaries, and showers to name a few.  This is my last idea, actually one of my favorites!   It is going to be hung up on our fridge, so my husband can see what is coming up each month!  I can add what I need to each month such as holidays, birthdays or anniversaries, and add to it when new events come up, such as birth's and marriages!  This way, it is easy to change if events change, and if I decide to change the colors of my kitchen!     The paper I selected is from a pack I found at Michaels that was on sale last week for 40% off!  There are 180 sheets of paper in it, this is just the first part of what has been made out of that particular shopping trip!  I cut the flowers from the top out of the paper I had used, putting a decorative brad in the middle of it, putting it on the top of the flap!  This is actually a very ...
