Christmas in July - card ideas

Christmas bear Christmas stocking         It's Christmas in July this month, so I hope you have fun with me in getting things planned out and made through out this month!  Taken from our challenges yesterday - today we are going to talk about getting your Christmas cards rolling.  The first step in starting your cards is deciding how many you are going to need to send out in the first place.  Then you need to decide if you are making them or buying them!  Are there any that are going to have to be mailed?  If so, make sure you design appropriate for mailing - you don't want to have to pay extra postage if your card is too bulky to mail.  You can also take the cards up to the person at the post office directly and have them hand stamp it, or talk to them next time you are in there anyway to see what the current guidelines are in order to mail safely.   Christmas presents      If you don't make the...

Basic stamping directions

Since stamping was my first love...I am focusing on that this week...  Try to give you new ways to use your stamps, or what to do with them; as well as tips and techniques to try yourself!   I haven't tried all the techniques that are out there, but I sure will get you to places that do, as well as showcase a few absolutely wonderfully necessary companies you need to keep track of!  So, lets get started!  With stamping, you can start slow, and then move on to more harder techniques as you go.  Basic stamping directions...that can be used for a card, or for an embellishment for a layout..... Supplies needed: Card base w/envelope Scraps of paper to use for the background paper Stamp Ink pad Markers or colored pencils Directions:  Step one:  Decide the item you want to make, pick out your background paper or anything else you want to use on the card.  Step two:  Add the background paper to the card base, determining the way th...

Basic cards

As you can tell, I love to make cards... my ideas are varied, from very detailed - using paints, embossing powders, chalks - down to very easy, using die cuts and a simple stamp (or not...) to create a look that you won't find going to the stores!  I am all about unique and cheap!  I use my Sizzix die cuts a lot - especially since I don't have any other type of machine of my own at the moment.  Since I am all about saving money - this particular die cut allows me to be creative while saving money.  I added a simple saying to the top - I used Thanks, but you could use just about anything!  Add the flowers and green stems and leaves to it, with buttons on top...this way you can customize the inside of the card to whatever you need to!   This card is done using the same die cut - again!  I also used a paper trimmer to make the stems, and cut a heart punch in half for the leaves.  All the papers matched together, again a simple notecard to be able ...

Making handmade cards

Until the end of the year, I will be focusing on making cards.  Making cards can save you a ton of money, especially if you use scraps.  If you look at the month ahead for the upcoming events you have, then you can have a few onhand when you need them, instead of having to spend the time running out and finding the perfect one.  Basic card making is really easy, especially if you scrapbook anyway, you already have alot of supplies that you can use!  I started learning with card making, and then found scrapbooking and what it was used for, which helped me save money!  Cards can be a great way to just make someone's day by saying "thinking of you"...or "thank you" in a way that is unexpected.....  Customize the cards to fit someones personality with their favorite colors and things!     Supplies needed:   Card and envelope (can be found at any craft store in packages) Stamps or die cuts/computer Ribbon and but...

Look at Monthly Events today!

Start to look at this next months events...birthdays, anniversaries, Thanksgiving, or other type of things like this that are pertinent to your family.  Spend a little time today putting things down on a calendar...pretty soon we will be working on a monthly type of calendar to keep track of the events in your life, so you do not miss a thing!   If you do not celebrate holidays or birthdays, look at basic cards that you might need to get done...is there someone who is sick, a kid who needs a perk me up, or someone who is moving....make a card for them!!!    As you look at your calendar, make sure you pencil in a time to get the cards done.  Spend one 30 minute session on putting things together such as the papers and embellishments needed to finish them up.   Start to look at card designs for the cards you need to make, or sketches that you want to recreate.   This way, you break things down a bit more to get things done as y...
