Scrapbooking The Hard Times -

Scrapbooking through the hard times - I'm not sure if you have thought about it or not...  I used it for therapy when I really needed it the most, and as I look back - it really helped me when nobody else could or "would" shall we say!  In the last 4 months - I have lost 3 very special people in my life - my cousin who was just younger than I am (by 3 months), my namesake (she was 100 years old), and my father in law (recently and unexpected)!  Unexpected deaths - it makes you think twice about life, and yet sometimes it helps you see the forest through the trees and exactly what is more important in life!     I learned this time - how to be a support system to someone - who simply didn't know what to do or how to feel for the moment!  I discovered it's not always about you, but instead what you can do to simply change things...be there...help!  I really found out what it is like to look at someone and judge them based on who they are, no...

Beginner Scrapbook Ideas

With this 2 page layout spread - I used easy enough techniques you can recreate using your own photos (cause you sure don't want to use mine, LOL)! A simple layout using 4 photos, a nice quote, - and the title is done using cardstock, film strips, buttons and floss, along with words in the middle of each of the film strips!   I love the yellow, blue and green combination along with the supplies used for each of the pages - and how easy you can recreate them!   The best part of this layout - is it can be done using what you have at home...a bowl, paper, and scraps of paper for the borders, using what you have available for your title!  You don't need to use exactly each supply I do, learn to switch it up a bit!       **To make the circles, simply grab a couple of bowl's from your kitchen, looking at how larger you will want your circle's to be.  Place one of them most of the way on the page, trace and cut it out.  As you matt it on the second co...

Beginner Scrapbooking -

Scrapbooking is all about talking your photos, and making an attractive way to showcase the memories behind the photos.  It isn't about spending a ton of money, or creating the best layout/album around that will get you published in the magazines or online.  Yet some people think they need to spend more money than they need and create all of these elaborate projects for their families, you don't !   To start out with, you need a few basic supplies - I call it your toolbox kit.  Look for coupons at your local craft stores to pick up any of the items on the list that you might need, and look at what you have at home too..some you might even have available right now!   Tool Box Kit:   Cardstock  Patterned paper Fine tip scissors Fine tip markers - at least black Die cuts and stickers Paper trimmer Adhesives Album The only other thing you would need to start out with is a pen or pencil, scrap paper for notes (or notepad of some sort), a rule...

Being Grateful Challenges

This month is a month to be grateful for what you have.  There are times, especially with my past - I don't feel too "grateful" let me tell you!  Then I have to look at things in such a different manor than I did before.  Being grateful doesn't come easy - I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way!  What about you?   Do you dread Thanksgiving time because it represents something you might not have...like a family?  Or has life given you more than your fair share of things to cause you to feel this way - like me?  Well, it's time you change that now isn't it!!!  It's time you look at what you do have, and not what you don't...   My "Being Grateful" album - was done a while ago...I wanted a place to document what I might be grateful for...my intentions with it - was to document something for each day of the month of November - and put it in an album...this year, I didn't feel so grateful for some reason...  So, your chal...

Beginner Layout - With a Challenge

When you are first starting out scrapbooking and making cards, you want your projects to look nice, but not take a lot of time to accomplish it!  You want to be able to learn how - without spending a lot of time doing it!  My beginner projects are meant to do just that - with you tweaking to what you have - or your own style!  For this project - I used one photo, with the age I was...and then 42 random things about me written on the two pages.   Basic supply list: 2 sheets background paper 2 sheet coordinating patterned paper 1 sheet (or scraps) white cardstock Scraps for punch's Rub-on's Daisy punch (can substitute) Brads Template for numbers Black fine tip marker Directions:   Step one:  Decide the "number" you are using and start to write down things to go with the theme you have selected.   Step two:  Matt one photo on patterned paper and white cardstock.   Step three:  If using a punch, punch 13 daisy's of 2 dif...

Beginner Scrapbook Layout

When you are first starting out scrapbooking...you want to create a wonderful project, without a lot of work.  You expect to sit down, and instantly know exactly what you are doing to create that perfect layout or project!  instead, you end up looking at the papers, embellishments and photos with more questions than anything!  When I first started scrapbooking, I bought way more supplies than I used at the time.  When I couldn't "shop" anymore, I had all this stuff that I could use still, and use it up I did!   Before you start your first project, look at examples of different layouts, more of the placement of the items...not the "theme" of the page.  Also look at the ads you see in magazines - the full page ones advertising a product.  I have made plenty of layouts from some aspect of ads, and they turned out wonderfully!   Supplies:   Blue cardstock - 3 sheets White cardstock - 4-5 sheets Red cardstock - 1 sheet Sticker p...

Using die cuts in different ways

I love using die cuts in my pages and cards, along with punches that are in the same type of theme, such as Grandma's Dresser layout pictured above.  I love using scraps of paper in order to make the creation truly one of a kind.  I don't like to spend a ton of money on my creations, so for me, using punches and die cuts help to make things a lot better for your money!        By using buttons, punches and die cuts together, you see how truly unique this type of look can bring you - just by using different colors of die cuts that match the layout you are creating.  I also used alphabet stamps to create the title, embossed in Silver in order to match the eyelets in the corner.  The colors of the flowers are all different, only using scraps for what I did.        For the card here,  you can see I used the same die cut as in the above layout, only for a basic note card instead!  I used bright colo...

Which came first - now my story!

Terra, Del, me and Casey at his graduation 2011       I will start by saying thank you to everyone for the continued support for Memories in Tyme.  A lot has gone on since I started this blog almost 3 years ago, of which I never thought it would go this far!  Scrapbooking and Memories kept me alive after a really horrible time in my life...so lets get started with my story!   If you missed the blog hop a few days ago, just scroll down and you will get the whole hop!  Make sure to go through and leave a comment, as one lucky winner this month will receive a free goodie pack of scrapbooking supplies!  Now on for my story... Is It Coffee Yet card      At the time I started crafting, I lived in Denver, Colorado area where I found stamping and making cards.  My very first project was my now 21 year old daughter's (pictured above)  birth announcements!  Since that first project - I have been hooked!  I went t...

Hidden journaling -

Hidden journaling is one of the funnest ways you can add journaling to your layouts, things you might not want everyone in the world to see.  If you look at the layout on the left, you don't really see any journaling.  Under my baby photo is the journaling you see underneath - hidden so the world can't see everything there is to know about me!  Some things  are not meant to be for the world to see - they are meant to just be written!        When I first created this layout - I looked at myself and wondered if I was switched at birth.  I didn't look like my mom, or my dad - so really who was I?  Well, by the end of this layout - I knew who I was -   Supplies Extra sheet of cardstock the same color as the main base of the cardstock you are using. White cardstock for the inside Glue Journaling supplies Directions: Step one:  Decide the background papers you are using.  You will need an extra ...

Using markers - beginner tips

For this week - we are talking about just starting out in scrapbooking, and some of the tools and techniques you can start with that won't break the bank!!!!  I was able to scrapbook on what was available to me during the time my husband was taken out of work, which was hard in a sense!!  I couldn't spend a lot of money on buying supplies - I had to learn to compromise with what I was using.  When everyone else was out buying stickers and things, I had to use my rubber stamps and punches to create what I wanted!  I learned what products would help save me money, and what did not!  This week we are going to talk about some of those tips and techniques - all for a beginner to try out!           One thing that I love and only use is Zig Markers!  I use them on my scrapbook pages for journalling, or for stitch marks, and especially for my paper piecing's and making sure the little fine parts...

More beginner layout ideas

When you are first starting out, you do not want to go out and spend a lot of money on products you are not sure you will ever use again!  This craft is expensive enough - and besides, it's not about spending the most money on supplies and having the best products around, it's about learning some of the things you can do when you first start your pages, without going out and breaking the bank!  Yesterday's post had paper tearing shown, which is not something you have to go out and purchase anything for - simply tear your photo matt's or create aspects to go with your photos!        With this layout - I used Provo Craft sticker sheets, using words that described my daughter!  I wanted the focus to be on the pictures, not on the supplies I used!  When you first start out, you are stressed out enough, without having to worry about what you are doing right or wrong - or what supplies are perfect or not.  S...

Beginner scrapbook layout idea -

When you first start to scrapbook, you need easy ideas to start with - going with a monochromatic color scheme is one of the best things you can do for a beginner!  Use this for any type of cards, or layouts you are planning on!  To do a "monochromatic color scheme"  simply pick a color you want to work with, such as the blue in the layout example above.  You then want to pick three different shades of the color you have chosen - this is where getting a color wheel comes in handy for sure!        Another technique you can do when you are just beginning to scrapbook, is paper tearing - again used on the example above!  I tend to keep everything from other projects - this was left-overs from another 2 page layout spread I had done about having 5 "teens" between my husband and myself!        Journalling is one of the most important things you can do in your layouts - bringing the ...
