Planning your projects -

When you start your projects - do you just jump on in and start creating - or do you painstakingly plan each of the projects that you make?  I do both - sometimes the inspiration starts with one part - and other times it starts with planning it all out!  As you do plan things out, it helps by making sure each decision doesn't affect any of the other ones!  If you start by asking these questions - you can make the perfect project each and every time!   Is the project for you - or someone else such as a gift?   Title - do you have a specific title in mind? Colors - do you have specific colors in mind? Photos - are they themed or not themed?   Paper - is there a specific paper line you want to use? Embellishments - do you have specific embellishments you want to use?   Sketch area - in order to sketch out idea.   Swatch area for color selection Shopping list area.      Some of my projects start with...

Lucky - with a challenge!!!

I don't consider myself a "lucky" person...I have had my fair share of things I have been through in life.  I lost an ex-husband to suicide and my father to Alzheimer's disease both on 8/5 - which was 3 days after my birthday - 5 years apart.  I was involved in a tornado 6 days after the ex died - in Salt Lake City, Utah - where tornado's don't hit. I was molested by 3 different people - I had an ex-wife from HELL get involved in my life and try to ruin and devastate not only me but my husband and my marriage.  However, I am one lucky woman when I met my husband Del, let me tell you!        Del came in my life when I needed someone the most - and I came in his about the same time!  We both had kids from previous relationships and marriages that we tried to blend (thus the ex-wife from hell comment) but he was something I just could not get enough of - especially how wonderful of a father he is!  He has a loving yet jackas...

Using die cuts in different ways

I love using die cuts in my pages and cards, along with punches that are in the same type of theme, such as Grandma's Dresser layout pictured above.  I love using scraps of paper in order to make the creation truly one of a kind.  I don't like to spend a ton of money on my creations, so for me, using punches and die cuts help to make things a lot better for your money!        By using buttons, punches and die cuts together, you see how truly unique this type of look can bring you - just by using different colors of die cuts that match the layout you are creating.  I also used alphabet stamps to create the title, embossed in Silver in order to match the eyelets in the corner.  The colors of the flowers are all different, only using scraps for what I did.        For the card here,  you can see I used the same die cut as in the above layout, only for a basic note card instead!  I used bright colo...

Which came first - now my story!

Terra, Del, me and Casey at his graduation 2011       I will start by saying thank you to everyone for the continued support for Memories in Tyme.  A lot has gone on since I started this blog almost 3 years ago, of which I never thought it would go this far!  Scrapbooking and Memories kept me alive after a really horrible time in my life...so lets get started with my story!   If you missed the blog hop a few days ago, just scroll down and you will get the whole hop!  Make sure to go through and leave a comment, as one lucky winner this month will receive a free goodie pack of scrapbooking supplies!  Now on for my story... Is It Coffee Yet card      At the time I started crafting, I lived in Denver, Colorado area where I found stamping and making cards.  My very first project was my now 21 year old daughter's (pictured above)  birth announcements!  Since that first project - I have been hooked!  I went t...

Technique Wednesday - basic journalling

This week, we are going to focus on a technique, and then will show you different ways to do this "technique" this week.  Journaling on your layouts is one of the most important steps when you scrapbook - as it brings the photos to light.  It's more than just the who, what, where, when and why's of the photos but the art of bringing the story to place that truly is the key!        When you are first starting out - may I suggest getting either a notebook or lined paper to keep track of things.  On this paper, write out information - who was there, what did you do, where were you at, when did it happen and why did this take place.  Keep track of the little things people say and do, in order to keep track of those type of events too.  As you are scrapbooking, think of the generations that are yet to be - and what they can learn from your pages!        What do you need to "journal" correctly?  I ha...

Ad Challenge Monday

Every Monday, you will get a challenge to work on for the week - this weeks challenge is the above ad!!!  When you look at ads, don't just look at what they are selling, learn to look at the placement of the items  for help, especially when you are just starting out!  For me I love the white space to start with, making the light green pop against the background.  I also love the daisy's - but then I always like a good flower when I create!  I also love how they used the blue with the layout, but for me, I didn't want to use blue - instead using black for my journaling.        My take for the challenge is this layout, made with Serif Digital Scrapbook Artist 2 software, and Painted Backyard free kit.  I started with the all white background, and then added the green for the middle.  I then added the frame, picture - and then the hearts for the embellishments, finishing off with the journaling below the pictur...

More beginner layout ideas

When you are first starting out, you do not want to go out and spend a lot of money on products you are not sure you will ever use again!  This craft is expensive enough - and besides, it's not about spending the most money on supplies and having the best products around, it's about learning some of the things you can do when you first start your pages, without going out and breaking the bank!  Yesterday's post had paper tearing shown, which is not something you have to go out and purchase anything for - simply tear your photo matt's or create aspects to go with your photos!        With this layout - I used Provo Craft sticker sheets, using words that described my daughter!  I wanted the focus to be on the pictures, not on the supplies I used!  When you first start out, you are stressed out enough, without having to worry about what you are doing right or wrong - or what supplies are perfect or not.  S...

Beginner scrapbook layout idea -

When you first start to scrapbook, you need easy ideas to start with - going with a monochromatic color scheme is one of the best things you can do for a beginner!  Use this for any type of cards, or layouts you are planning on!  To do a "monochromatic color scheme"  simply pick a color you want to work with, such as the blue in the layout example above.  You then want to pick three different shades of the color you have chosen - this is where getting a color wheel comes in handy for sure!        Another technique you can do when you are just beginning to scrapbook, is paper tearing - again used on the example above!  I tend to keep everything from other projects - this was left-overs from another 2 page layout spread I had done about having 5 "teens" between my husband and myself!        Journalling is one of the most important things you can do in your layouts - bringing the ...

Things I'm Thankful For Blog Hop

Welcome to the Things I'm Thankful For Blog Hop. This blog hop runs from November 18th through November 19th. For a lot of people, Thanksgiving has become a day to watch football, eat turkey, and watch the Macy's Day Parade. While these are not bad things, some believe the most important part of Thanksgiving is giving thanks to God for our many blessings. God was very much a part of that first Thanksgiving. Although some would say it was just a day of celebration. Historical records show it was a time to give thanks to God.The pilgrims looked at everything as a gift from God, even the sorrowful things they saw as God allowing them to perfect their character. So with that being said we have created this "Things I'm Thankful" blog hop to show you some things we are thankful for and some wonderful things we think of when we think of Thanksgiving. We’ve had so much fun creating this hop, and we have a wonderful line up with some oh-so-talented creator...
