Different ways you can journal on your layouts

I am working on a series of articles on Ezine Articles about journalling and how important it is to your scrapbook layouts.  Lets look at different ways you can start to journal!  Today, we are going to look at journalling on punches or die cut shapes for different ways you can start to journal instead of the everyday block of writing on your pages!        With this layout, you can see the different colors of circles with the journalling added.  I added a smiley face and a frown face for things I like and don't like.  This was one of the funnest layouts I have ever done, using one photo and a two page layout spread!   I used my favorite color - pink, and added the brown to it in order to bring a different color other than just the pinks!  I framed the photo a bit more, adding the brown buttons to the bottom.  I then added eyelets to this piece and the bottom journalling piece to thread some floss throu...

Technique Wednesday - basic journalling

This week, we are going to focus on a technique, and then will show you different ways to do this "technique" this week.  Journaling on your layouts is one of the most important steps when you scrapbook - as it brings the photos to light.  It's more than just the who, what, where, when and why's of the photos but the art of bringing the story to place that truly is the key!        When you are first starting out - may I suggest getting either a notebook or lined paper to keep track of things.  On this paper, write out information - who was there, what did you do, where were you at, when did it happen and why did this take place.  Keep track of the little things people say and do, in order to keep track of those type of events too.  As you are scrapbooking, think of the generations that are yet to be - and what they can learn from your pages!        What do you need to "journal" correctly?  I ha...

Journaling products

For journaling you really don't need a lot of things to get started in your journaling projects...for the most part you need a marker and a pencil!  I like to use a marker like this, with a fine tip and then a thicker tip on the other end.  Make sure to store your markers on it's side, it will make them last longer and will be crisp when you use them.  Start with a simple black marker, and then add colors from there.  I love the big pack of 48 markers I bought, but only use them on paper piecing projects and journaling mostly.    They are nice to have when I need them, but the black is the one you really could keep me stocked in!  One thing you need, but you don't really think about, is a pencil and an eraser.  This little goodie can be used to pencil in the words before you write in marker, to make sure you have enough room as well as spell things correctly.  With the pencil, you can lightly trace the letters you need for th...

It's all about Journaling this week.....

Journaling... the written word on your scrapbook pages that reflect what the picture is all about .  This week we are going to talk about journaling...and show you a few ideas to kick your journaling up a bit!  The photos are the reason you are scrapbooking in the first place, but the journaling helps to bring the photos to light.  At times, you might have a simple name and date...other times, you might have half a page or more just talking about the photos themselves.  You can journal by hand, or by computer if your handwriting is less than perfect, but make sure you at least do one project with your handwriting on it so future generations can see  how your handwriting looks.  In the layout Honestly - the strips of paper have the journaling on them cut in sentences and added to the pink and brown color scheme.  I used one photo, and a one word title with the journaling added in the strips.  With Lifestyles of the frazzl...

Always Remember

My mom sews... and I mean designs Blessing Dresses (Christening gowns, depending on the religion you are in.....) like you wouldn't believe!  My daughter Terra's dress is one of a kind...but she does that with everything she does, changes some aspect of the dress to make it unique.   I get that from her...being able to take things and create it on paper instead!  Sometimes when you scrapbook, you find photos that you want to showcase...it should be about the photos, not the embellishments you use.  I've said it before, and I will say it again...after you are gone, and your family has your pages and albums...they are not going to look down at a special page and say "Oh, this paper wasn't a new style when she created this"!  The reason I say this is because it's truly about the memories, the feelings you felt when those photos were taken in the first place, not the embellishments you use on the layout.  When I decided to make this layout, I wanted ...
Time Flies... an easy layout to recreate.  My son is now 24, when I started his album he was around 18 or so!  Waiting that long to start a child's album is hard because you have to remember so many different things!  This layout was very easy to recreate, even the sewing around the edges!  As I looked at what to do in this layout, I wanted to showcase how time flies when your kids are growing up.  One day they are babies, learning to go up and down stairs, and the next they are learning how to drive and getting their own lives going!  The supplies you need to recreate this layout is: Cardstock Saying stickers Buttons Floss for around the edges Black journaling pen Tags Sewing maching for sewing around the edges Needle for the floss Step one:  Find the photos you want to scrapbook. Step two:  I chose the saying stamps first, so I could decide on the colors of cardstock to use.  Step three:  On the base cardstock piece, us...
