When it comes to Christmas - do you painstakingly take time in each and every small detail, from the parties, to the gifts, to the cards you send out each year? I know I don't...and each year, the gifts either aren't finished in time, or they don't get sent, or I just didn't get along with my family enough to be able to send them much of anything - you get what you give or so they say! This year - I am spending time THIS MONTH in making some of the things I need for that fun event...and planning the cards I want to do, the mini album projects, and the gifts for people...all to make this years Christmas a funner one than last years was! From a fun framed page that is customized for everyone, to the cards I send out...each item is being made with love, detail and attention!
In this layout, I used darker colors of red and green, with bits of gold for the accent color, and a bit of ivory to make it all pop. It's all in the details of this project!
Supplies:
2 sheets background paper in green
Cardstock accent colors - red and ivory (2 sheets each color)
Christmas patterned paper (1 sheet if you use the right way)
Die cuts - Sizzix tags, present and frame
Gold ribbon
Pop dots
Glue dots adhesive (or adhesive of your choice)
Alphabet template
Gold buttons
Gold brads
Directions:
Step one: Separate the background paper into two piles. This way - as each part is finished, you can put the correct parts on the side it belongs to for use later on.
Step two: Start with the border and topper. Using an alphabet template, start to cut the letters out of the patterned paper you have selected, but make sure you leave enough room for the accent pieces shown from the paper you cut.
Step three: Trim a 1.75" red border and topper, and a 2" ivory border and topper. Add the letters to the correct border or topper and using Glue Dots adhesive to keep them down. Set aside on the correct side of the layout you are using this.
Step four: Either purchase, cut yourself or die cut 3 tags. I used ivory for 2 of them, and the patterned paper for 1 of the tags. Die cut the presents (or use your trimmer and a bow punch instead), I used 2 in the patterned paper and 3 in red. Die cut the frames shown on the left side making sure to keep the middle pieces too.
Step five: Start to put together the tags first, using adhesive to put the particulars together on each of the presents first. Start to put the gold ribbon around the 2 larger tags, adding the present to the top. On one of the tags, add a pop dot to raise one of the presents.
Step six: With the frame on the left side of the layout, make sure you keep the middle pieces for the small journaling block on the bottom of the right side of the layout. Take the ivory piece and add the red wave piece to the top. Take the red piece from the middle of the frame, and add the ivory piece to the top of that. Using adhesive, make sure you use enough Glue Dots to keep the pieces down. For the journaling piece, add 2 small presents to the bottom.
Step seven: For the left side of the layout, you need a red piece approximately 7.5" across and about 3.5" on the side. Add two smaller pieces of ivory cardstock using a simple paper tearing technique for the bottom of the border, leaving a small bit so you can see the red underneath in-between the two ivory pieces.
Step eight: For the right side of the layout, grab a piece of the leftover patterned Christmas paper add an ivory layer to it, and on the bottom, a simple red strip with 3 gold buttons on the top of the red piece.
Step nine: Start to add the adhesive to the backs of the particulars you have made - and put them down on the paper as you see above.
Christmas layouts can be fun to do - especially if you are big on that day anyway! Your layouts can be made before hand, looking at what you normally do first, and finding the perfect papers to go along with it. Look at your stash of stuff, or have a party in which people brings over things they do not want or will not use, and trade with people! This way you are getting newer supplies to work with, even if it is older paper! I hope you enjoy this project, and make sure you check out the darling layout tomorrow - with an elf and an interactive feature for journaling!
