For this week - we are talking about just starting out in scrapbooking, and some of the tools and techniques you can start with that won't break the bank!!!! I was able to scrapbook on what was available to me during the time my husband was taken out of work, which was hard in a sense!! I couldn't spend a lot of money on buying supplies - I had to learn to compromise with what I was using. When everyone else was out buying stickers and things, I had to use my rubber stamps and punches to create what I wanted! I learned what products would help save me money, and what did not! This week we are going to talk about some of those tips and techniques - all for a beginner to try out!
One thing that I love and only use is Zig Markers! I use them on my scrapbook pages for journalling, or for stitch marks, and especially for my paper piecing's and making sure the little fine parts of the item is on there. I love how they have different colors that you can use, though I really use a lot of black more than any other color I have! With the layouts above, being the last of 5 children - and having a mom with cancer when I was a baby, there isn't a lot of pictures of me when I was young! However, I have a lot of awesome memories from that time period, so for this project, I used the Zig Writer Marker with the two tips! (This way, if you screw something up then you can't really tell if you use the broader tip!!!) With the markers, they also allow you to put the fine points of a paper piecing pattern on it - and with the two tips on the Zig Writer Markers, you will get your money's worth for sure!
When you first start out, look for crops at your local stores - and go to use their equipment and the teachers time to create a neat project for yourself, even if it's a framed page to hang on your wall! If you decide you truly like it - I will suggest finding your local Michaels or Joanns stores and check out their classes! Scrapbooking doesn't have to be expensive...it's about getting your memories out on paper, not spending the most in supplies!!! Make sure you look for coupons for the stores above, and use them for larger purchases! Scrapbook with a buddy - so you don't have to spend a bunch of money up front, and spread your purchases out over time! Get things you can use on other crafts to save money in that direction - you do not need two sets of markers, one for stamping and one for scrapbooking! Find yourself the perfect markers - I know I did!
