If you have been scrapbooking for a while...you want to kick it up a bit, add a few more supplies to what you have already! We will start to look at fun things you can add to what you have started out with...things that will help you create YOUR style of things! I like to give you the basic ideas, it is up to you to look at others' styles, to see what you are attracted to! So, lets get started on a few additions to the beginner supplies to add to your toolbox!
One of the first things I would add to your supplies is flowers especially these by Prima! Flowers are an easy way to add a bit of "something" to your projects. There are many things you can do to the middle part of the flowers to make it look like a flower...get a different color button for the middle, or use a brad..put a few different colors and sizes together to make a really unique look for your pages.
The one thing that you can add so much to...stickers, flowers, ribbon, stamping techniques, die cuts, punches...is tags, especially the ones here by Martha Stewart! Tags are so much fun, especially when you start with a basic back and add what you have to the rest of it. A lot of my favorite pages that I have done is made with a simple tag, flowers, ribbon, punches...or whatever I have at the time to go with the page!
I learned early on that templates were a great way to save money, especially when you have basic shapes that you use a lot of, such as the circles, ovals and rectangles that you have see here! Templates are easy to use, grab the sheet of paper you want to work on, your scissors and a pencil...work on the backside of the paper, this way there will be no pencil marks on the front side of the creation! Use the circles and ovals for photos, matting, or just as a bit of color on the page! Another template I really think you should look at is the EK Success Cutter Bee which will help you to cut circles that are just perfect! You will also need to have their glass mat and cutting tool to complete the package!
Of course you want more and more paper, stickers and embellishments, I would look at the things you scrapbook most and pick that stuff up...or those type of colors. Cardstock is really important to have around, as you can create quite a bit with just cardstock and a bit of embellishments! One thing I would add to your toolbox is a color wheel of some sort. I would NEVER be able to create without that one little tool...so if you are working a lot on projects, you need to pick one up!
One can never have too much ribbon and floss and I will tell you, you will surely be the same! If you like to make cards, you use ribbon a lot...and in scrapbooking, it gives your projects a bit of pop... I have used ribbon on a lot of projects...at the ends of my bookmarks, on the sides or bottoms of my pictures, maybe a little bow at the top of a card, or on my tags...especially on my tags!
You will have what I call your "tool kit", and then you will also have this Took kit by Making Memories that has quite a bit of wonderful little extras that you will need including an versatile setter that will make holes anywhere on the page, and set eyelets or snaps...plus a small hammer, setting mat, small ruler, tweezers and much more! This is a great little kit that is wonderful to take with you, being able to have all of your tools and things in one place, instead of all over the place!
One thing that you can never live without is magazines or books and I mean many...many.. books and magazines! When you look at the book, you will get exact ideas and ideas...by that I mean - exact ideas are the ideas where you like the way that layout/card/project look, so you want to recreate it exact. Ideas are things such as color selection they used, a tag or embellishment, the way the title is, the title itself, or the theme of the page. Get someone a subscription of their favorite magazine it can be sent to them all year long, with ideas and things to satisfy their creativity!
Tip: Do not just shop because you can...or it's cute...or you like it...shop with a purpose in mind, fulfill that purpose and get on with it... The only things I would suggest you have on hand is cardstock, adhesive, buttons and ribbon. You can make quite a few things with those items added to your toolbox!
