A few days ago, I put a link to a site that had a darling Christmas album idea..I hope you take the time to look at the idea she had to showcase her memories for the whole month from Thanksgiving to Christmas. In this post, I wanted to share with you how I do my layouts, so you can get different ideas! Pick up a few things now while they are on sale...use them for other projects you might be doing! Or, make an album for all of your gift list recipients to showcase THEIR memories from this time of year!
Scrapbooking is therapeutic to say the least...being able to use art to cope with a personal issue or problem. I know at this time of year, it is rather hard when you have lost a loved one...or dealing with issues in your life. I was able to use scrapbooking as a therapy tool, only until recently...did not realize it! If someone in your life is going through a hard time, get them involved in scrapbooking, especially at this time of year!
For my Christmas layouts...I used basic paper and added a bit of die cuts that already were patterned, all I had to do is cut them all out! I have no clue if you can even get these now, they were bought in Utah a number of years ago...but, there are plenty of darling stickers, die cuts and more that you can use in replace of what I have used!
With this 2 page spread, you can see I used red and white background paper, with red and green as the accent colors. I chose to use a bit of white, with punch pieces and a bit of buttons and floss as my accents...at least for these two pages! I love using squares cut in half such as the example to the right...adding patterned die cuts to the entire layout, such as in the examples below! I do not journal on the individual pages, I usually will add a handwritten page about that particular year and what happened in it. It is important to use your handwriting too, not just the computer when it comes to the journaling that you do.
In the pages above, as well as the pages you will see at the side and below...you will see a sort of "pattern" that I used, all the same background paper and a simple green border, with the same type of patterned die cuts used on the side pages. I then used buttons to add where the buttons already were, to just add a bit more depth to it. I just had to fall in love with a man who wore Homer Simpson slippers, let me tell you!
So, when you are planning your layouts, you know you will have multiple pages with the same theme... create one look and feel throughout this years layouts...with next years layouts being a totally different look, feel and theme! It really helps in planning things out a bit more, looking at what you have available, mixing and matching papers and paper lines to find the perfect look for you and your own project!
With the 2 page spread here (the one on the left side and the right side) I wanted to showcase my husband's kids in spread! I used a cute title, and hung a picture from it such as in the example to the left... I kept the border and the die cut on the border...it just helped to tie the last set of pages in the way the first set of pages were.
For my cards and pictures of my friends and family, I decided a simple pocket page was sufficient enough, such as in the example listed below... I added 1" squares to the top, in a diamond shape, adding stickers to the top saying Christmas 2002. I wanted a place that was easy enough to keep my cards in (or at least a few of the best ones if you get a ton...) and that I could reflect back on if I wanted to! Again, I used the same paper on the bottom, with a sheet of white as the background. Make sure you use adhesive on the bottom, and sides of your pocket to make sure nothing will fall out! I made tags for the front of the pockets, with the same type of embellishments used on the first set of pages to tie it in with the rest...
For me, I am not a huge "family" person...haven't been for a number of years. Look at your situation...even if you create one 2 page spread and put it in an album, or find fun layouts that YOU want to recreate, look at this month in a different manor! I hope you are "unlike me" in the fact that you do have family that wants you around them, and you spend time looking back on funner times instead of bickering back and forth. I would love to be a part of a family where everyone looks forward to seeing the rest of them...much like the family I talked about for Thanksgiving! I hope you enjoy the season, no matter what holiday you celebrate...may this next year be a new and exciting time in your life!
