Which came first - now my story!

Terra, Del, me and Casey at his graduation 2011
I will start by saying thank you to everyone for the continued support for Memories in Tyme.  A lot has gone on since I started this blog almost 3 years ago, of which I never thought it would go this far!  Scrapbooking and Memories kept me alive after a really horrible time in my life...so lets get started with my story!  If you missed the blog hop a few days ago, just scroll down and you will get the whole hop!  Make sure to go through and leave a comment, as one lucky winner this month will receive a free goodie pack of scrapbooking supplies!  Now on for my story...

Is It Coffee Yet card
At the time I started crafting, I lived in Denver, Colorado area where I found stamping and making cards.  My very first project was my now 21 year old daughter's (pictured above) birth announcements!  Since that first project - I have been hooked!  I went to every stamp store I could in Colorado, and bought a ton more stamps from Stampin Up and Close to My Heart - and then moved back home to Utah in 1997 where scrapbooking was HUGE!!!  Card making is very easy, you use the same supplies as you do scrapbooking, cardstock - patterned paper - adhesive - and things to make the cards look pretty!  I use a lot of chalks to color my images in, or colored pencils if the urge hits me!  One thing with stamping, you don't have to do the same thing with each image, you can learn to do different techniques along with the easier ones to kick things up a bit!  This card here is very easy to recreate with a saying stamp and an image, along with a bit of scraps of paper!

Always Remember layout
With scrapbooking, my sister took me to the scrapbook stores in Utah when I moved back home in 1997, and oh boy...a brand new love was formed!  My first scrapbook project was my 2nd wedding album - it didn't stop there!!!  I now have at least 8 albums, and various mini album projects I have done.  Debbie (my sister) and I went to 2 classes - a beginner class and then an organizing class, and that is all she wrote for me.  I went home, reorganized all my stuff and started using it together!  I didn't let anyone dictate how my pages were to look or feel - I did what I wanted to do!  In between time, I discovered the industry just does things too hard in order to allow you the opportunity to learn - that is why Memories was born in the first place!   With this layout, it is a picture of my daughter when she was born in her blessing dress!  I am LDS - so this is like a Christening gown in other religions...one that was very special, made by my mom!!!
Scrapbooking kept me alive after a really horrible time in my life...when used as a therapy tool it will help you work through your issues in a positive manor.  I am so glad I found card making and stamping first, but scrapbooking - that is my true love right there!  I would love to hear what came first for you guys - and why you started in the first place!  I might just pick another prize for someone!!!

  1. Your layout is SO SWEET! I Love reading how you got started in scrapbooking. I got started back in 1997, my daughter was turning 16 and I knew I couldn't afford a car for her since I was a single parent struggling to make ends meet. SO, I had a HUGE garage sale and sold EVERYTHING I had kept and didn't need and earned enough money to get started. My first scrapbooks are Creative Memories and the stickers, OY!! LOL! I am SO HAPPY that I found scrapbooking as it has been such a GREAT way for me to bring out the artist that was hiding, and I just LOVE to play with paper. Have a GREAT Day,
    Me-Ma Kim
