Being artistic really has it's advantages, let me tell you! My mom is artistic, I get it from her - except she sews, my sister danced when she was little (and better than anyone I ever knew that could dance), and now I "create" paper craft items. For a while there - I wondered where I belonged, I didn't think I was like much of anyone in my family...yet when we get started talking now, OMG let me tell you, you can sure tell where I fit in and belong! Mom and I are a lot alike in how we tackle the projects we do - let me explain!!!
There are times when you look at a project, and have no idea how you want to do it, and other times when you know exactly what you want to do. With me, I first decide the project I am doing, and then the theme of the project - so that the rest comes easier! I spend a few minutes writing things out on a sheet of paper, so that I know what needs to be done or what I want; this also helps if I have to go back and forth between this and other things in my life. It also helps to have everything down on paper for the planning process. If you find papers in one color, but embellishments in another color, your project is going to be "off". Each step affects the other step, so having a planning paper can help with each step to make sure the project is perfect. There have been many times I have had to redo a project because I was too busy to "think" about it first before jumping into things.
As I am done with the first few details of the project, I start with the colors first, first by looking at the papers that I have, deciding what will work. Do I have something that is perfect for what I want to do...or do I need to get something else? I then check out the embellishments and things I have to go with the project, putting everything down in one place. From there - everything for me is planned in my head (much like my mom plans her sewing projects) only to sit down and finish up the project in no time!
Now, what do you do with themes that do not have any type of embellishments to go with them, I know I've never found an Easter Birthday themed embellishment or paper as I have looked at the stores, have you? With this type of thing, I create my own "thing", to match as close as what I can to the theme I want to use! Take the project here for example, I used a simple Easter Bunny, but added presents and birthday balloons along with the Easter Eggs! This way, you aren't just stuck with one "theme" or another, you are tying both into the project together!
Check out tomorrows post for directions on how to complete this album! It was the first album I had made for my sister...but it gives you a great idea on how to look at making something with a strange theme! I hope you enjoy today's post, and I apologize for disappearing...things get rather "interesting" at my house... Have a great day and we will see you tomorrow!
