Beginner Scrapbook Layout

When you are first starting out scrapbooking...you want to create a wonderful project, without a lot of work.  You expect to sit down, and instantly know exactly what you are doing to create that perfect layout or project!  instead, you end up looking at the papers, embellishments and photos with more questions than anything!  When I first started scrapbooking, I bought way more supplies than I used at the time.  When I couldn't "shop" anymore, I had all this stuff that I could use still, and use it up I did!

Before you start your first project, look at examples of different layouts, more of the placement of the items...not the "theme" of the page.  Also look at the ads you see in magazines - the full page ones advertising a product.  I have made plenty of layouts from some aspect of ads, and they turned out wonderfully!

Supplies:
Blue cardstock - 3 sheets
White cardstock - 4-5 sheets
Red cardstock - 1 sheet
Sticker pack
Paper trimmer
Adhesive
Photos (I used 9 between the 2 sides)

Directions:
Step one:  Trim 1" off the top and side (doesn't matter which one) of both blue sheets of cardstock.  Add the adhesive on the back, layer it on to white cardstock.
Step two:  Create your "Happy" and "Birthday" borders - adding the stickers to the white, then matt on blue, and last on red.
Step three:  Start to create your photo matt's by looking at the photos you have.  You want to trim 3 photos the same size, 2 photos the same size and then the last 4 can be any size you want.  For the 4 photos, matt them on white cardstock, set aside.
Step four:  Take your 3 photos and place them like the example above.  You will want them about 3 1/4" for the width, and for the length - about 3 3/4" or so in order to have plenty of room across the whole page.
Step four:  Take the two photos, place them on the left and right side, leaving the middle open.  Place a sticker from the sheet in the middle of this.
Step five:  Start to place the items on the pages using your favorite adhesive.
Step six:  Finish up by placing a few of the stickers on both pages as the example above shows.

This type of layout can be made with any theme...I used a birthday theme as you can tell! When you first start out, work on photos you tend to take a lot, such as birthdays, holiday's, and school type of photos (if you have kids...) - when you are more experienced, it's nice to work on those day-to-day photos, summertime photos and things like that!
If you are more "experienced...you truly could have fun with this layout, using more handmade embellishments, or things made from your die cut machines than stickers!  Great beginner project - and if you are just starting out with this craft...make sure you check back next week for another great beginner project posted!

Until next time,
