Using scrapbooking as a therapy tool

Today I want to talk to you about using scrapbooking for something other than "scrapbooking".....  When you are having a hard time dealing with a personal issue, or a tragic issue in your life, there are times where a book or therapist is not going to help.  They might help in the whole picture, but in the day to day thoughts and feelings... scrapbooking is what helped me more than anything else...  I discovered more about myself by scrapbooking my "Book of ME"...than any other album I have done.

There are times in a persons life where you really need to go to a therapist...but can't because of finances, or insurance, or other reasons.  This is what my problem was, having a need for therapy, but not being able to go to one because of one reason or another.  This is how things were for me, needing to go because of repressed memories, family stuff and then baggage from a wonderful husband that is not his fault, yet no insurance to deal with all of "that".

A few posts back, you will find the directions to making an altered journal...with school supplies on sale right now, find composition notebooks for less than $1 and grab paper that you like to create a one of a kind "design notebook".  Use this notebook to sketch out layouts you would like to do, put colors on that you want to use, the title of the layout, and the specifics of the layout such as size, colors, title, embellishments, etc.

This is one of those layouts that helped me to see a few things in my journey to healing.  It was the "feeling" of being safe in my Uncles arms, looking down at how far the ground was!   The journaling and title were together, a photo of my uncle and I and one embellishment.  The words and the photo were the part I wanted to focus on...for me, the safeness I felt with Uncle Vaughn.

Scrapbooking is a great therapy tool...it helps to get the brain focused on the GOOD parts of your life, instead of the crap and negativeness.  The fun moments, spending time with friends or family...the little things your kids say...or your family pets!  It is times like this I am glad I have made the items I have...not only for me to heal through, but also for my loved ones to see how far I have came.

Things have not been easy for me...I have learned so much about myself as a person.... Some things I have not been so glad to learn, BUT they have made me into the person I am today...one I have learned to stay TRUE to...   Life is not about doing what is easy, it's about doing what is RIGHT.....sometimes doing what is right makes it so you are standing alone.....and this is exactly what I am doing with issues.  So my friends, learn to take scrapbooking for healing issues in your past, and learn to take time for YOU.  When I was going through the worse time in my life, I learned that scrapbooking helped me to stay alive.  I now can say I am healing, and glad this craft helped me to discover who I really am!  Thank you for joining my journeys...both my life and my scrapbooking journey!
