Scrapbooking is all about talking your photos, and making an attractive way to showcase the memories behind the photos. It isn't about spending a ton of money, or creating the best layout/album around that will get you published in the magazines or online. Yet some people think they need to spend more money than they need and create all of these elaborate projects for their families, you don't!
To start out with, you need a few basic supplies - I call it your toolbox kit. Look for coupons at your local craft stores to pick up any of the items on the list that you might need, and look at what you have at home too..some you might even have available right now!
Tool Box Kit:
Cardstock
Patterned paper
Fine tip scissors
Fine tip markers - at least black
Die cuts and stickers
Paper trimmer
Adhesives
Album
The only other thing you would need to start out with is a pen or pencil, scrap paper for notes (or notepad of some sort), a ruler, Xacto knife, and if you do other crafts - things like buttons, ribbons, and yarn can also be used on your pages. Start small, don't be thinking you need to make a huge project to begin with - or spend a ton of money on supplies. Try one photo, add some journaling...maybe a die cut or sticker - and then frame it! With either of these two layouts, you can change different aspects of things - such as the title, or the embellishments used, either way - when you start with your photo and papers, it's all yours anyway! I love how either one of the layouts has handwriten journaling versus computer generated...but I also love to do computer generated on some projects! Personally I love seeing my grandma's handwriting still - and she has been gone for 16 years almost!
So - scrapbooking doesn't have to be this huge thing...one simple photo, adding a bit of journaling and a few embellishments! Easy layouts to recreate with any type of photos you might have! As you create more layouts - keep your scraps, this will help to be able to make cards, or one of a kind embellishments as you go along! Get your family involved - it's their memories too!
Now, if you need a bit of extra help - I do online classes with Take Lessons! Each session is catered to what you want to learn, or you can take one of the classes listed here! If you are just starting out - and need a bit of extra help and attention, this is a great way to get that "personalized attention" without having to go anywhere except your own home! Plus you can have your own supplies available when we do the class, therefore learning on your supplies, not mine!
Making scrapbooks can be a lot of fun - AND expensive if you let it! In order to do it for less, don't spend a lot of money up front... Watch for sales, look online and just buy the things you NEED! Plus if you do this with your family, it can be a great thing to create together! I hope you join me in making YOUR first scrapbook album!
