Creative Challenge

My mom was really creative, she sewed like you wouldn't believe!  Me, I papercraft - make cards, mini albums, wall art, and scrapbooks.  She could look at something and then know how she wanted to make it.  I do that with my creating.   I am my mom's only daughter - to have a daughter - that had a daughter.  I am very proud of Terra and Zoey.  My kids were one thing I did right, let me tell you!  This picture was the time we surprised my mom with both her and Zoey, along with my sons!  Terra had her just before HER birthday in December, mom had cancer - so we had to surprise mom with my kids for Mother's Day!    Since my mom died, I haven't had the creativity that I used to.  It is as if it died when she died.  I have a hard time now picking up the paper, the stamps, and using the Cricut machine to create much of anything.  It sucks, let me tell you.  So, when I do have inspiration, I try to take advantage of it ...

Making Your Own Handmade Cards

Making your own cards does not take a lot!  8.5 x 11 cardstock, cut in half - and then purchase a box of envelopes - I get mine at Amazon!  Add patterned paper in various colors and themes, and you have one-of-a-kind cards for your friends and family!   I also use scraps for the most part!  I do use a 12 x 12 sheet at times with a One Sheet Wonder template!  There are some awesome ideas on Pinterest, check out my page here !  With scraps, you can find really fun colors to use together that normally doesn't go together, it just matches well! With my cards, for the most part I don't put a saying on the inside of the card.  I like for people to personalize it to who they are giving the card to!  If I have a saying to go in it, I let my customers decide what they want!    I use different die cuts for different things.  Or I combine a die cuts and punches to make the card more unique!  You can get a few basic shapes and use the...

Sitting Back, Looking Forward

You know those times in your life when you sit back and think about things in your life a bit more?  Things that worked out and made you happy, and then just went to the wayside for whatever reason?  I'm at that point.   I will be 60 in a few weeks!  Out of everyone I am involved with in a situation, I am the oldest person.  I was taught by my parents to treat people how you want to be treated.  To help, serve, love, honor.  I was taught wrong from right, and learned who I didn't want to be by the people around me at a young age.  I learned the good parts and left the bad alone.   Oh, I wasn't perfect...  I did a lot of stupid things during my first marriage.  I let another one do things to me that caused my kids more harm than it did good.  And another one I couldn't abandon because of what happened to the second one, suicide.  All because I simply wanted to "help".  But the things in my past, during...

Changes Coming -

Hello, long time no hear from on my end!  I have had a hard time deciding what to do with Memories...  It has been a part of my life for so long, that I am almost afraid of giving it up!  But there comes a time when things change, and it's THAT time that things change!  Karma and the Gods decided this one for me!   My mom died September 23, 2021 - and I haven't been able to create much since.  I have finished maybe 3 projects if I am lucky in almost 2 years, I simply haven't been able to sit down and do much of anything.  Reason... I am just like my mom, only I paper craft, I don't sew like she did!  She made clothes for me, dresses for my daughter, a "blessing dress" for her, (which is just like a Christening gown, only in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints religion).  She made quilts, and holders for your oven door... man I miss those!  My creating has changed now, and I am not sure why.  No reason to create like...

Until next time, Lynda Jeffs Memories in Tyme

Creating During The Pandemic (And beyond) Tips And Ideas

Tips and Ideas   None of us planned on this whole pandemic thing...we sure didn't plan to be stuck at our homes with nothing to do for over a month!  I wanted to give you a few ideas to spend time creating while you are cooped up, using what you have already bought and have available!  Let's get started!!! Spend time as a family creating layouts from past events!  Sometimes others will remember things we don't, or at least we get things from their perspective as well as our own! As you are creating projects, find photos that can tell more than one story, or that tells a different side to the event or photo!  Maybe a photo where you have a picture of something (a person, or food lets say)... it goes with other photos in the event.  The same picture could be used by itself telling a whole other thing, using the food - maybe your favorite food.....that kind of thing! Have each of your kids (if they are old enough) do some sort of a scrapbook of their...

Products Used This Week

Products I used on the projects this past week  I use a lot of different products on the things I make - and yet, I end up using the same things over and over at times!  You will have your favorite "go-to's" when you create, just don't forget to look outside the box as well!!!  Things like floss and ribbon, used for other things, can be used with your paper crafts as well!!!  Let's get started! Products Die cuts The die cuts I have right now, I have used for 18+ years that I can remember!  It was the best investment instead of cutting the shapes out by a template!  That is great and cost effective if you are just starting, but if you are going further, you need access to a good die cut machine!  I personally use Sizzix and Cricut, I will have reviews for both of them coming up!  Make sure you check back next month for those!  Best thing with the die cuts, you can use them over and over with different papers and themes, an...

Making Extra Embellishments For Future Projects

Making extra embellishments for future projects When I  start to work on a project - I look at what exactly am I creating..... what type of a project and how many of it am I doing.  Do I need to create one set - or multiple?  As I look at "that" - I start to decide what papers am I going to use.  I might start with one set - and then move on to something totally different by the time I am done LOL!  It all starts with the papers - to make beautiful embellishments of your own!  Once I start to work on my project, I make more than enough embellishments to work with!  That way, I can be a bit more picky about the things I am adding TO the creation, and I have some left over to use on other projects!!!  If you notice the photo, these are the leftovers from my mom's altered drink holder!  I can use the white balloons on a bunch of birthday cards, and won't have to  die cut any shapes for a while!   Tips: Making m...

Sympathy Card Idea

Sympathy Card Sympathy cards are never any fun to make, given the reason you are making the card in the first place!  I finally found a stamp set I love to use that allows me to create a lot of different cards with one set, including sympathy cards!!!  Stampin' Up is my favorite place to purchase stamps and ink pads as they have quality products, in a ton of themes!!!!  I am sure you will find what you are attracted to, from stamps to ink pads... no matter what company you end up going with!!!   Supplies used: Sympathy stamps Ink pads to match paper used Card w/envelope Various flower die cuts Vine w/leaves die cut Large sun punch Small sun and circle punch Border punch Papers (I used Stampin' Up) As I start my cards, I usually pick out more than enough stuff to create with, supply wise I mean - such as: Papers I want to work with Stamps I want to use for the project Any ink pads to match the papers  If ...

Using Corner Punches For Tags

Using Corner Punches For Tags With today's idea, I was playing around with my supplies, needing to do a few sympathy cards..... and this is what I ended up with!!!  I will share the finished idea tomorrow, but the tags can be done for various themes and sayings, so it deserves a post all it's own!!!  I have a lot of supplies I have had for over 20 years, and some more like 25+ years that I still use to this day!!!!!  This is one thing I have used over and over again, only different ways!  It makes the cost for that supply, actually save you money in the long run, every time you use it on a project!!!!  Sometimes, it pays you to buy it the more you use it!!! Supplies needed: Corner Punches Cardstock Stamps Ink pads Paper trimmer  Directions: Decide what type of a tag you want to create.   Find the stamps you want to use. Pick out the ink pad that will match your cardstock. Stamp your saying giving you more than enough room...

Mom's Recycled Drink Holder

Mom's Birthday Present This is one of those special projects, created for my mom's birthday!!!  I wasn't too sure what to do for her this year, it was her first birthday since being back home... gone for 12 years!!!!   I wanted this present to be special and fun at the same time!!!!! Supplies used: Coordinating cardstock and papers (I used 6) Sizzix die cuts, I used balloon and present for this example Hot glue Pop dots Twine for balloon strings  Recycled drink holder from a fast food restaurant (85) Directions: Start by die cutting the shapes you are going to use for your creation!  I ended up doing way more shapes than I needed to for this project!  However, it will help me make a few cards to go in my stash!!! Add the twine to the balloons, set aside for the moment!!! If you have presents, get them put together!  If you don't have a die cut present shape, create your own presents with scrap paper and a bow! Start to...

Recycle Everyday Things When it comes to doing paper crafts, you can make a lot of neat one of a kind gifts for your friends and family!  Look at everyday things that you would normally throw away, and see what you can create out of it!!!!   Things you can recycle: Cans - these beauties can be used for so many different things!   A pencil (or anything) holder for one, great to hold smaller like items in!!  Larger cans such as coffee cans, make wonderful present (of any type) holders!  You can put a lot of stuff in one coffee can!!!!   Cover them and add plants to them!!!  Decorate and use in the bathroom, kitchen or office!  Put markers in them, crayons, colored pencils even and add to a kid's art table!  Use for your creative storage, changing the colors as you need to!!! Oh No, I Don't Have Enough Paper

There is nothing worse than getting in the middle of a project and you do not have enough paper to do what you want!  I have been in the middle of something and I need just a little bit more cardstock of a certain color, and there is none left!  That is NOT going to happen, not on the PERFECT project!!!   I don't want to use a whole piece of cardstock if I am only needing a small piece!  This is why I save all of my scraps of paper, because there will be that one time, I have the perfect scrap for the project!  Besides, you can't see the back side of a sheet of paper!!!!!!      With this particular set of cards, I needed a bit more black for a basket!  I will share the finished project on another post, but they really are turning out cute!  Anyway, I knew I needed a bit more of the black, but didn't have anymore of this color!  So, I cut the inside of the back sheet of cardstock and got enough paper to do the b...
