Getting Ready To Make Cards -

I have been making cards for almost 23 years, in fact...right about now I was creating my very first project, my daughter Terra's birth announcements - made out of a Disney stamp, cardstock, and a few colored pencils to color them in!  I had been put flat down in bed the early part of November, and knew I was having a girl!  That is why her nickname is "Pooh Bear", because of this Disney stamp!!!  I absolutely knew NOTHING about making cards - but wanted to create something "unique"!
Through this one project, not only did I find I loved to create crafts in general,  after moving back home to Utah from Colorado, I discovered the art of scrapbooking, and the rest you might say - is history!  I found a talent to create, and a love to share with people - to show how easy it is to create your own style of cards, pages and gifts!  I am going back to the basics...to help you in not only organizing your stuff, but in helping you get more done with what you do have, instead of spending a bunch of money!

First up - card making!!!  When you are first starting out, look at the type of categories you send most often, such as:
Categories for scraps and things
  • Anniversary or Wedding
  • Baby
  • Birthday
  • Friendship
  • Get Well
  • Just Because
  • Note Cards
  • Sympathy
  • Thank You
  • Thinking of You
  • Holiday Specific
I also have a box (pictured here) that I put scraps from theme specific projects, extra stamped images, stickers, envelopes,- or whatever might be able to be used more for cards, tags and bookmarks - all in this box.  It just makes it easy to grab one box when I am working on cards, instead of having things all over the place!  I also have another drawer that I use for things that can be used for either making cards or scrapbooks, with stickers, themed items, rub-ons, and paper piecing patterns to name a few.  Check back next week for pictures and a post with more categories!
Now for a bit of a challenge:
  • For those of you who are brand new - grab a notebook and start by looking at what type of cards you send out and use.  This is the best cards to learn to start to make!
  • If you have made cards for a while, and don't have a category system, it's time you decide what you want to do!
  • If you are one that you have made cards, have a system going...your challenge is to clean it all out, make sure everything is in it's place - and make at least 5 cards for your stash!
Make sure you share with me how you did on this challenge!  Next weeks challenge will be more about organizing the things you have - and going through stuff too!  So, enjoy your week, make lots of cards, and see you next time!
